Personnel from the NATO Military Police Centre of Excellence (NATO MP COE) participated for the first time in Exercise Sentinel Justice 2026, the largest training event in the history of the U.S. Army Reserve, bringing together more than 12,000 military personnel in a realistic Large-Scale Combat Operations (LSCO) environment.
Representing the Centre’s Standardisation, Transformation and Lessons Learned functional areas, our experts observed operational detention activities, Military Police procedures and emerging technologies, while collecting valuable observations to support the continuous development of NATO Military Police capabilities.
Participation in OSJ26 provided the NATO MP COE with direct insight into large-scale detention operations conducted by U.S. Military Police. The observations gathered will contribute to the further refinement of the Handbook on Detention in NATO Operations, support NATO standardisation efforts, and enhance interoperability across the Alliance.
Exercises such as Sentinel Justice ensure that NATO doctrine remains informed by operational realities, strengthening the Alliance’s readiness for future multinational operations.
